For six long decades, the left had a free run of the Indian ecosystem. The sell out by Nehru and later Indira Gandhi to USSR and to a lesser extent, the capitulation to China ensured that the left intellectuals and their comrades rewrote Indian history. Today, the left controls not just the academics, but also the world of movies, music, art, culture, judiciary and of course, the media.
This point was reinforced when i was listening to Nikhil Singh Rajput after the screening of his documentary Blood Buddhas at Kshetrayanam at Tiruvananthapuram, a couple of weeks ago. Nikhil was recounting the struggles he faced in finding the funding required to produce his dream project, which was about bringing back our stolen heritage. He drew a parallel of how a leftist film maker would have got funds by the bushels, had he just dreamed up an idea. Nikhil remarked that the left eco-system was so powerful that an independent film maker like him had to face numerous road blocks, just because the subject he was working on was considered a rightist.
Nikhil's story is not an exception, but rather it has become a rule. The killing of a leftist author like Gauri Lankesh saw huge protests against BJP and terms like Saffron Terror (a term that was coined by the ministers of the UPA 2 regime) were raised. On the other hand, the brutal murder of a young RSS karyakarta in front of his parents allegedly by Communists in Kannur does not even find a mention in our media. This is the stranglehold that the communists have managed to impose on every walk of life.
The left oriented universities like JNU are a classic example of how even the professors have become the recruiting agents. Fed generously by huge government funding, these educational institutions have become a law unto themselves. Students stay on forever jumping from one course to another refusing to quit the highly subsidized hostels even after completing their courses. Any student who is not in consonance with the leftist philosophy is harassed and forced to quit.
The less said about the books that we are taught from our school days, the better. We have been all along indoctrinated to believe that it is just one family that has been responsible for the freedom that we have got, the development that the country has witnessed - and we should be indebted to them. The names of Sardar Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad and Rajguru have been reduced to the footnotes of history. It is only Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and now the latest Gandhis, who matter. From roads, to stadiums, to airports, to government schemes and awards, everything is named after just one family.
In a way, the Congress party had become more leftist than the communists themselves. The way Indira Gandhi surreptitiously inserted the word 'Socialist' into the preamble of our constitution was done with that strategy in mind. This is why there is huge push back whenever BJP comes up with a change in the name of an award or scheme. The entire leftist brigade which includes the Congress, all holler that BJP is imposing its brand of Hindutva on an unwilling population. But no one in the past asked, why did we import an alien concept called Communism driven by dictators like Stalin, Lenin and Mao, into a country called Bharat?
Five years of Modi rule, and we have barely managed to dismantle a few bricks of the leftist edifice. It will take at the minimum, two decades of a rule by a party like BJP to overturn and cleanse this leftist school of thought. Remember, this battle cannot be fought by leaders like Narendra Modi alone, we need each one of you to challenge the leftist hegemony on our institutions. The communist goons will threaten to break your bones, kill you and even harm your family. That is the way they work and prosper - by scaring the common man. We have driven them out of West Bengal and Tripura and now only Kerala remains to be cleaned up. Power, should flow from the might of the pen, not the barrel of a gun.
