Donald Trump claims India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, MEA confirms

"Over the past 48 hours," he said, "VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik. I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site. We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace."
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the ceasefire. He stated, "Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!"
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan's DGMO reached out to India's DGMO. He confirmed that India and Pakistan have declared a ceasefire starting at 5:00 PM IST.
Misri said that Pakistan’s DGMO called India’s DGMO at 3:35 PM today. Both sides agreed to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea. The ceasefire would take effect from 5:00 PM Indian Standard Time. Both sides issued instructions to give effect to this understanding. He added that the DGMOs will talk again on May 12 at 12:00 PM.
The Directors General of Military Operations of Pakistan and India will hold another round of talks on May 12 at 12:00 PM, Foreign Secretary Misri confirmed.
"India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," said Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar after announcing the ceasefire.
