YSRCP leader V Vijaysai Reddy stepped down as a Rajya Sabha member on Saturday, citing personal reasons. He met with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to submit his resignation. Despite having three and a half years left in his six-year term, Reddy resigned, stating that his decision was driven by personal reasons.
"I have submitted my resignation to the vice president and chairman of the Rajya Sabha and he has accepted the same," Reddy informed reporters after meeting Dhankhar.
Following V Vijayasai Reddy's surprise resignation announcement, party leader Maddila Gurumoorthy urged him to reconsider, stressing the need for unity to ensure YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's re-election as Chief Minister.
"Definitely, we are all wishing that he (Vijayasai Reddy) should continue in our party. Please do not exit from politics. Experienced people like you are necessary for the party. To make Jagan CM again, I requested that we should all work together," Gurumoothy spoke to reporters outside Vijayasai Reddy's home in the national capital.
Responding to the appeal, Vijayasai Reddy said, "think and talk about it."
Gurumoorthy emphasised that there were no internal conflicts within the YSRCP, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, and expressed confidence that Vijayasai Reddy, known for his bold nature, would overcome any obstacles. Despite the challenges, the physiotherapist-turned-politician remained hopeful that the party leaders would continue to press forward.
Previously, former minister and YSRCP leader K Goverdhan Reddy had commended Vijayasai Reddy for his pivotal role in helping Jagan Mohan Reddy become the Chief Minister. He acknowledged that Vijayasai Reddy had faced many difficulties, particularly from political rivals, but had tackled them with courage and determination.
"A person (Vijayasai Reddy) who dreamt of seeing Jagan Mohan Reddy as the CM and also a person who worked to make Jagan CM again. Be it TDP or yellow media, some selfish people have plotted and conspired against him and resorted to vengeance. And he faced all of them boldly," stated Goverdhan Reddy.
Goverdhan Reddy made it clear that Vijayasai Reddy's decision won't change how the party views his valuable contributions and leadership.
"YSRCP has an inseparable relationship with him. In case he reconsiders, we will all ask him to stay in politics and continue with his service-minded nature," he further said.
