On Monday in Belonia, a town along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) organised a major protest. YTF is the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), which is a partner in the ruling BJP coalition in Tripura. The protest targeted what the YTF claimed were "illegal activities" involving the construction of an embankment inside Bangladeshi territory.
The protestors raised serious concerns about these encroachments. They said such actions could weaken the already fragile border security and disturb the demographic balance in Northeast India. They shouted slogans and held placards that called for urgent action to protect the border and defend the indigenous identity of Tripura and the entire Northeast region. They also expressed frustration over the illegal entry of migrants, the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, and what they described as the increasingly aggressive actions of Bangladeshi authorities toward India’s Northeastern states.
The founder of the Tipra Motha Party showed his support on social media. He stated, "This is a clear message to all: we will not allow our borders, our people, or our identity to be violated." He also claimed that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stopped thousands of party workers from taking direct action against the embankment. "Our youths only need a green signal. The rest will be handled," he asserted.
Tensions remain high along the sensitive stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border. YTF protestors have vowed to continue their agitation until authorities address their concerns.
