The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has decided to ban strikes by government employees and officials in the state for the next six months.
The decision was made following the strike that the electrical department's workers called beginning on December 7, according to the reports. Using the Essential Services Maintenance Act, the state government has put the restriction into effect, and it applies to all services, businesses and workers in state-affiliated enterprises. The UP government has made it clear in the order that the public interest was taken into consideration when making this decision.
Principal Secretary M Devraj issued the directive on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government using the authority granted by the Uttar Pradesh Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1966. According to the directive, officers and staff working for the Uttar Pradesh government or government-owned and controlled services would not be permitted to go on strike in any capacity for the ensuing six months. This judgment was made in the public interest, according to the decree. Notably, the Yogi government's decision was made in response to the December 7 announcement of a strike by Uttar Pradesh's energy department workers.
The Essential Services Maintenance Act, or ESMA, was used by the Uttar Pradesh government to impose a six-month strike ban. All state government departments, corporations and corporations will be subject to this rule.
