World's tallest Ambedkar statue set to be unveiled in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to unveil the world's tallest statue of BR Ambedkar, recognized as the architect of the Indian Constitution, in Vijayawada. The ‘Statue of Social Justice’ stands impressively at 206 feet, securing its position among the top 50 tallest statues globally.

Notably, it follows Sardar Vallabhai Patel's ‘Statue of Unity,’ currently the world's tallest statue. A 175-foot Ambedkar statue is the second-tallest in place in the neighbouring state of Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed, "The 206 feet Mahashilpam of Ambedkar, erected by our government in Vijayawada, stands as a symbol not only for the state but also for the country," as conveyed in his statement on X.

Last year, the United States witnessed the unveiling of the tallest Ambedkar statue outside India, named the 'Statue of Equality,' in Maryland. Sculpted by Ram Sutar, the statue stands at a height of 19 feet. Notably, Ram Sutar, the same sculptor behind the statue of Sardar Patel, created this remarkable piece.

Standing at an impressive height of 125 feet, the world's tallest Ambedkar statue is elevated on an 81-feet pedestal. The construction project for this monumental statue incurred ₹404.35 crore and encompasses an expansive 18.81 acres of land, adorned with a lush green park.

The creation of the 'Statue of Justice' was executed as a comprehensive 'Made in India' project, encompassing every aspect from sourcing raw materials to the intricate design process. A substantial 400 tonnes of steel were meticulously employed in the construction of this monumental statue, showcasing a dedication to domestic production and craftsmanship.

The area around the statue and Swaraj Maidan, where it was built, has been improved. They added water features like ponds in the front, a water body around the base, and a musical fountain in the area.

The site has been equipped with LED screens to showcase the life of Ambedkar. Additionally, notable additions include a convention centre with a seating capacity of 2,000, a spacious food court spanning 8,000 square feet, and a dedicated children's playing area, enhancing the overall amenities and offerings at the location.
