The Centre-Right parties’ alliance bloc along with Far-Right Sweden Democrats have successfully dislodged country’s Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven, who was the Prime Ministerial Candidate from the Centre-Left Alliance consisting of - Social Democrats, Greens and Left Party. In the mandatory procedural No-Confidence vote, 204 out of 349 members from Swedish parliament voted against Centre-Left Alliance Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, just managed to receive 142 votes for himself and three other members were not present in the chamber during the vote. But neither Left Bloc nor Right Bloc were able to fetch decisive majority to form next government. In this election numbers have soared for Right ideologue Parties.
There is a considerable amount of Europeans who are troubled by immigration issues and have a fear of a civil war like situation, due to rising immigrants. These issues have made voters inclined towards Right Wing Parties. Swedish voters voted on 9th September, under same dilemma and discontent, which benefited Anti-Immigrant & Nationalist, Sweden Democrats the most. They became the third- largest party in the country, Sweden has been a leftist bastion in the past. Left seems to be getting decimated swiftly across Europe- Italy, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, Denmark and France and Right is the preferred option to deal with the present political concerns of the citizens according to some voters.
The speaker of Swedish parliament, Andreas Norlen, who was elected day before the no-confidence vote has now the duty to reach out to all eight parties representing Swedish voters in the parliament to form the new government.
It is expected that Andreas Norlen might first reach out to Ulf Kristersson, leader of the moderates. Moderates are largest among the four party Centre-Right Alliance Bloc consisting of Moderates, Centre, Liberals and Christian Democrats. In an attempt to form government Ulf Kristersson has to seek support from either Centre-Left Bloc or Anti-Immigrant Sweden Democrats, which has 62 members and supported motion of no-confidence to vote out Stefan Lofven.
Sweden Democrats have been persistently avoided by other mainstream political parties since they have first entered into the parliament in 2010, due to alleged Neo-Nazi roots but they are interested in forming government to correct the misconceptions against them. Jimmie akesson, leader of Sweden Democrats has clearly shared his intention that his party will not hesitate in bringing down any government who will not address the burning issues of Immigration, Healthcare, Pension and Crime. He said “If Ulf Kristersson wants to be next prime Minister, it can only happen with our help”.
On the other hand Stefan Lofven, leader of Social Democrats and Prime Minister Candidate from Centre-Left Bloc has rubbished any option of forging alliance with Ulf Kristersson led Centre-Right Bloc. Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlen have three months to break the deadlock and facilitate formation of new government or else Sweden will go for election again and it is expected that Sweden Democrats will be benefitted again. Only possible option seems to be available with Ulf Kristersson, is forming alliance with Sweden Democrats to prevent any early election.
