Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party would not allow the construction of a “Babri Masjid” in West Bengal as long as even one party worker remains alive in the state. He made this statement while addressing a poll rally in Hooghly district.
During his speech, Shah strongly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee. He accused her of permitting suspended party MLA Humayun Kabir to begin construction of a mosque in Murshidabad district that is modelled on the Babri Masjid of Ayodhya. Addressing Banerjee directly, Shah said, "Mamata didi, remember that till one BJP worker is alive in Bengal, we will not allow construction of Babri Masjid here," Shah said.
The BJP leader also launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging failure in governance, law and order, and employment generation. He said that the upcoming assembly elections are important for the future of the state and claimed that Bengal needs to be freed from terror, riots, and infiltrators.
Speaking about the issue of infiltration, Shah alleged that illegal entrants are taking away resources meant for citizens. He said, "Infiltrators are taking away jobs and rations of the poor. They will be identified and jailed after May 5," he said, expressing confidence that the BJP would win the elections.
The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be announced on May 4. Shah expressed confidence that his party would come to power in the state.
He also spoke about safety and economic development under a potential BJP government. Shah claimed that women would be able to move freely without fear, even late at night. He said they would feel safe stepping out even at 2 AM.
Highlighting economic revival, Shah assured that all closed industries in the state would be reopened if the BJP forms the government. He said this would create more job opportunities and boost the state’s economy.
Overall, Shah’s address focused on strong criticism of the current government and promises of improved governance, better security, and economic growth if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal.
