Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on European businesses to make use of India’s vast talent pool, supportive policies and growing technological capabilities while addressing VivaTech 2026, France’s largest startup and technology event held in Paris. Speaking at the event alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi highlighted India’s vision for inclusive technology and human-centric artificial intelligence.
The Prime Minister said that access to technology is as important as innovation itself. Stressing the need for equal opportunities in the digital age, he said, “When it comes to technology, along with innovation, what matters is access. Technology can lead to progress only when it is democratised. India believes that in this era of disruption, technology must deliver for all.”
During his address to entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders, Modi explained India’s approach towards artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He said AI should be used to improve people’s lives, increase access to opportunities, support economic growth and contribute to environmental sustainability. Referring to India’s role as the AI Country Partner at VivaTech 2026, he said, “Our participation as the AI Country Partner at VivaTech 2026 reflects this very vision. For India, AI means ‘All Inclusive’.”
Highlighting India’s strengths as a global technology destination, Modi said the country offers one of the world’s largest talent pools and provides an open and dynamic environment for innovation. He pointed out that the government is simplifying regulations and creating a business-friendly ecosystem to encourage investment and technological development.
He further stated, “We are simplifying regulations and ensuring ease of doing business. From innovation to commercialisation, we are supporting private enterprise through targeted incentives of over $50 billion. We are also providing one of the world’s most affordable data and low-cost green energy.”
The Prime Minister said India is committed to creating an environment where businesses can innovate and grow. Emphasising collaboration between the government, startups and global companies, he added, “Our approach is clear. Our government will enable and industry will innovate. Startups will disrupt and global partners will scale with us. Together, we will move faster than ever.”
Modi also spoke about the transformative impact of technology across different sectors in India. He highlighted the country’s achievements in digital innovation, including operating the world’s largest digital identity system and handling the highest volume of digital payments globally. He said technology is helping improve governance, increase efficiency and create opportunities for millions of people.
The Prime Minister explained how advanced technologies are being used to strengthen agriculture and other traditional sectors. He said Indian women are receiving training as drone pilots and are using drones for spraying fertilisers and monitoring crops. These innovations are helping farmers improve productivity and adopt modern agricultural practices.
Speaking about the use of space technology, Modi said satellite data is playing a key role in supporting fishing communities. He stated, “Indian women are being trained as drone pilots, for spraying fertiliser and crop monitoring. Satellite data is guiding hundreds of thousands of fishermen to the most promising fishing zones, helping them save fuel, reduce time and improve catch. Our technology solutions are delivering prosperity at the grassroots level.”
Following his keynote address, Modi and Macron visited the exhibition area and interacted with Indian startups and innovators participating in the event. They observed a range of technologies and practical solutions developed by Indian companies in sectors such as healthcare, sustainability, mobility and industrial applications.
VivaTech 2026 marks India’s largest participation in the event so far. The Indian presence includes dedicated pavilions showcasing advancements in artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, health technology, clean technology, mobility solutions and advanced computing. More than 80 Indian technology companies and startups are taking part in this year’s event, reflecting the growing strength of the country’s innovation ecosystem.
India’s engagement with VivaTech has expanded steadily over the years. The country became the first Country of the Year at VivaTech 2022, strengthening its position within the global technology community. More recently, VivaTech formalised a partnership with the Bengaluru Tech Summit, further deepening collaboration between India and international technology networks.
Through his address at VivaTech 2026, Modi presented India as a major global technology hub and invited international businesses to become part of its growth story. He emphasised that innovation must remain inclusive and accessible, ensuring that technological progress benefits people across all sections of society.
