AIMIM leader Ghufran Noor created a buzz on Wednesday after he urged a gathering of Muslims to produce more children. According to the leader, increasing the Muslim population is the key to become a Prime Minister.
In an undated video, Aligarh district president of AIMIM, Ghufran Noor was seen asking Muslims to discard family planning methods as they are against the Sharia law and increase population by having multiple children.
The leader can be seen asking Muslims to have more children so that they can ‘capture power’ in India.
He also linked having children to gaining votes. Noor added that Dalits and Muslims were being 'scared' into having fewer children, insisting that it was against Sharia law.
"Unless we have kids, how will we rule' How will Owaisi saab become Prime Minister' How will Shaukat saab (UP AIMIM President Shaukat Ali) become Chief Minister'" Noor was heard saying in a viral clip.
Asked about his remarks later, the AIMIM leader has continued to maintain his stance. The politician however noted that he had not made the remarks in a public forum, but indoors amongst his “own people”.
Earlier this year in July, Owaisi had criticized the population control bill proposed by the Uttar Pradesh government, arguing that the two-child norm would lead to demographic distortion of communities.
He also said that women should be given the right to decide the number of children they wish to have. Owaisi claimed that the proposal violated Article 21 and would harm women as 93% of sterilizations happened among women in the country.
"As per year 2000 population policy, TFR has reduced from 3.2% to 2.2% in 2018, without incentives. In Dec 2020, Centre in an affidavit mentioned that international experience shows that any coercion to have a number of children is counterproductive," he said as quoted by news agency ANI.
