Uttarakhand's Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara's Dera Karseva chief shot dead

Police reported that Baba Tarsem Singh, the dera karseva chief of the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara in Uttarakhand, was fatally shot by two motorcycle-borne assailants within the shrine's premises. According to Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manju Nath, Baba Tarsem Singh was swiftly taken to a hospital in Khatima for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
He stated that there are clear CCTV footage recordings of the assailants, confirming that they are both Sikhs. Additionally, he mentioned that they fled the scene following the incident. The Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara, situated on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route in Udham Singh Nagar district of the state, holds significant reverence among Sikhs.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Manju Nath, disclosed that according to CCTV camera footage, the assailants entered the gurdwara premises on a motorcycle at approximately 6:15 am. The footage captured them shooting at Baba Tarsem Singh with a rifle. Nath further added that the shooter was observed riding a pillion on the motorcycle during the attack.
"The Senior Superintendent of Police stated that two rounds were fired at Singh while he was seated on a chair. The first shot was discharged from the front, followed by another from behind, causing Singh to immediately collapse to the ground," reported the SSP.
He stated that eight police teams had been deployed to apprehend the attackers of the dera karseva chief. Describing the incident as "serious," Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT). The SIT, comprised of personnel from the Special Task Force and local police, has been tasked with investigating the matter.
He asserted that if there is a conspiracy behind the incident, it will be uncovered. He also mentioned that assistance from central agencies will be sought for this purpose. Additionally, he assured that the assailants would be apprehended soon.
