The US appears to be intensifying its focus on space warfare, with the US Space Force making preparations for potential conflicts in space.
The US Space Force is collaborating with two companies to demonstrate its approach to addressing threats in space, marking a notable advancement in its readiness for potential adversaries beyond Earth.
Contracts totalling $62 million have been awarded to Rocket Lab and True Anomaly by the US Space Force for its Victus Haze mission. These contracts aim to replicate real-world situations in which the US space military branch would react to threats in orbit, as stated in a released statement.

Contracts totalling $62 million have been awarded to Rocket Lab and True Anomaly by the US Space Force for its Victus Haze mission. These contracts aim to replicate real-world situations in which the US space military branch would react to threats in orbit, as stated in a released statement.
According to the statement, Rocket Lab has been contracted to construct and launch a spacecraft utilising its Electron rocket, while True Anomaly has been assigned to develop a spacecraft capable of rendezvous, reconnaissance, and close proximity operations, as well as provide a command and control centre. The mission, scheduled for 2025, will furnish each company with a set of mission plans for execution.
During the mission, the Space Force will employ the two spacecraft to simulate potentially threatening scenarios in space. These may include instances such as satellites posing a hazard to US spacecraft or foreign satellites and spacecraft engaging in espionage activities against US military satellites.
Colonel Bryon McClain, program executive officer for Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power at the Space System Command, emphasised the significance of utilising innovations from the commercial space sector to counter emerging threats, notably from countries like China. He stated, "VICTUS HAZE will demonstrate our ability to respond to irresponsible behaviour in orbit under operationally realistic conditions."
The Space Force's recent initiatives align with its depiction of a futuristic battle in orbit, illustrating its commitment to safeguarding America's interests in space. Responsibilities encompass managing space launches, tracking orbiting objects, and maintaining crucial satellites like GPS, weather, and communication satellites. Collaborations with private companies underscore the Space Force's determination to maintain superiority in space defence and readiness for potential conflicts beyond Earth's atmosphere.
