The United States of America has approved a package of 131 million US dollars for the Indian government regarding military hardware and logistics support. This move strengthens the strategic ties between the two nations.
The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which operates under the Pentagon, certified the sale of the military hardware. It also notified the Congress of the USA about the possible transfer. An American readout confirmed this information.
This approval came amid the Donald Trump administration pushing New Delhi to increase its military procurement from the United States.
The USA proposed this as a foreign military sale. The package supports the Indo-Pacific programme concerning Maritime Domain Awareness.
This proposed supply is part of the broader India-US cooperation under the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness framework.
The DSCA’s mission is to advance US national security and foreign policy interests by building the capacity of foreign security forces to respond to shared challenges.
The readout stated, “The State Department has made a determination approving a possible foreign military sale to India of Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness and related equipment for an estimated cost of USD 131 million.”
The deal includes sea-vision software, remote software, analytic support, and other related logistics. These supplies will help improve India’s maritime capabilities and enhance its strategic posture in the Indo-Pacific region.
Indian authorities have not yet commented on the proposed supplies. The US readout reiterated that the estimated cost is 131 million US dollars.
The readout stated, “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship and to improve the security of a major defence partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions.”
The US stated that the proposed sale will improve India’s capability to meet current and future threats by bolstering its maritime domain awareness, analytical capabilities, and strategic posture.
According to the readout, India will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces. It stated, “The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
Hawkeye 360, located in Herndon, Virginia, will serve as the principal contractor for this deal. The readout also stated that the sale will not have any adverse impact on the US’ defence readiness.
