The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that a series of precision airstrikes in Syria have killed 37 terrorist operatives, including several high-ranking leaders from the Islamic State (ISIS) and Hurras al-Din, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda. These targeted strikes highlight the ongoing commitment of the US and its regional partners to combat terrorism and ensure security in the area.
In a detailed statement, CENTCOM confirmed that these operations were conducted as part of their broader strategy to disrupt and degrade the capabilities of terrorist organisations. The statement read, “CENTCOM Forces conducted two targeted strikes in Syria, killing 37 terrorist operatives, including multiple senior leaders of the terrorist organisations of ISIS and Hurras al-Din.”
Earlier this month, on September 24, CENTCOM also carried out a significant strike in northwest Syria, resulting in the deaths of nine terrorist operatives, among them Marwan Bassam ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf. He was a senior leader of Hurras al-Din responsible for overseeing military operations from Syria. Hurras al-Din is known for its global aspirations to conduct attacks against US and Western interests. The recent strike against ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf follows another successful operation that eliminated another senior leader, Abu-‘Abd al-Rahman al Makki, just a month prior.
Additionally, CENTCOM reported an airstrike on September 16 that targeted an ISIS training camp in central Syria, killing at least 28 ISIS operatives, including four senior leaders. This action is part of CENTCOM’s sustained efforts to dismantle the operational capabilities of these terrorist organisations.
Gen Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, stated, “These strikes against leadership and operatives of ISIS and the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din, represent CENTCOM’s commitment to the enduring defeat of terrorist organisations in the CENTCOM area of responsibility and our support to regional stability.”
The US military’s precision strikes are designed to minimise civilian casualties, and CENTCOM confirmed that the recent operations did not result in any civilian harm. This precision underscores the strategic approach taken by CENTCOM in its fight against terrorism in the region.
As the conflict in Syria continues, these recent strikes reflect the US’s determination to counteract the growing threat of terrorism, particularly from groups like ISIS and Hurras al-Din. The ongoing operations signify a significant escalation in efforts to ensure regional stability and security, as well as to protect US interests and those of its allies in the region.
