Uttar Pradesh Police have uncovered a suspected terror module linked to Pakistan’s ISI and arrested four individuals from Lucknow. The operation was carried out by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which had been monitoring their activities for some time. The accused have been identified as Saquib alias David and Arbab from Meerut, along with Vikas Gehlawat and Lokesh from Gautam Budh Nagar. All four were taken into custody yesterday.
According to officials, the group was planning to carry out blasts at several key locations to spread panic. Their targets allegedly included railway signal boxes, crowded public areas, vehicles carrying gas cylinders, and the premises of well-known organisations. Investigators revealed that Lucknow railway station was their primary target.
Saquib, who worked as a barber, is believed to be the main handler of the group. He was reportedly in contact with Pakistani operatives through social media platforms - Telegram and Instagram. Authorities suspect that he was coordinating the activities and guiding the other members.
The ATS acted on intelligence inputs regarding the group’s suspicious movements and communication. After tracking their activities, the team successfully arrested all four suspects. During the operation, officials recovered a can filled with chemicals, seven mobile phones, pamphlets, and Aadhar Cards from their possession.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are trying to gather more details about the network and any possible links to other operatives. The arrests have prevented a potential threat and highlighted the role of intelligence-based operations in maintaining security.
