The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday approved a resolution to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced. The decision recognises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to the state’s infrastructure development, with the airport expected to emerge as a major aviation hub.
Speaking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting, Adityanath said the state government was grateful to the Prime Minister for the airport, which he described as a significant gift to Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi inaugurated the airport’s first phase in March this year.
"The Council of Ministers of Uttar Pradesh expresses its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting the state the Noida International Airport at Jewar. The Cabinet has approved a proposal to name it Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar," he said.
Adityanath said the airport would become the largest in Uttar Pradesh and play a major role in strengthening the state’s aviation infrastructure. The project is expected to improve air connectivity and support the region’s development.
The Cabinet also passed a resolution congratulating Modi on completing 25 years of continuous public service as the head of a government. October 7 marks 25 years since he first took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. He later became the Prime Minister in 2014.
Adityanath described the milestone as an important moment in the country’s history and highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s connection with the Prime Minister. Modi represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha and has maintained a strong political association with the state.
"The Cabinet has resolved that October 7th marks a glorious chapter in the nation's history. The Council of Ministers of UP extends its heartfelt congratulations to PM Modi on the completion of 25 years of continuous, dedicated service as the Head of Government. This is a moment of special pride for UP, as PM Modi leads the nation from the sacred soil of this state, serving as a popular public representative and Member of Parliament," he said.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the personal bond between Uttar Pradesh and Modi. He said the state had entered a new phase of development under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
The proposed renaming of the airport places Modi’s name at the centre of one of Uttar Pradesh’s major infrastructure projects. The Jewar airport is being developed as a key gateway for the National Capital Region and is expected to expand the region’s capacity to handle air traffic.
