Union cabinet approves 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas, including four in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country, including four in Uttarakhand.
"Under the leadership of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country. As per this historic decision, four new Kendriya Vidyalayas will also open in Uttarakhand," CM Dhami shared in a post on X.
The schools will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹5,872.08 crores, which will provide education to 82,560 students and create 5,388 permanent jobs. "On behalf of all the people of Uttarakhand, heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the Honourable Prime Minister and the Union Cabinet for this decision. According to a press release issued by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under Civil/Defence sector across the country and expansion of one existing KV i.e., KV Shivamogga, District Shivamogga, Karnataka, to facilitate an increased number of Central Government employees by adding two additional sections in all the classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme)."
The press release detailed that the schools will require ₹5,872 crore over eight years, with ₹2,862.71 crore allocated for capital expenditure and ₹3,009 crore for operational costs. These schools will benefit around 82,560 students and create 5,388 regular posts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the Cabinet's decision to open 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) alongside the KVs. In a post on X, he wrote, "Gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for the decision taken to establish 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas and 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Union Cabinet today. The ₹8,231.9 crore initiative will accelerate Modi Ji's vision to build a Viksit Bharat by contributing immensely to training more budding talents in world-class education. These new schools will serve as the cradle for millions of dreams."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also emphasised the importance of this step, stating on X, "Our government has taken another big decision to make school education as accessible as possible. Under this, 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas will be opened across the country. While this step will benefit a large number of students, it will also create many new employment opportunities."
The four KVs in Uttarakhand will be located in Tehri Garhwal, Almora, and Pauri Garhwal districts. Across the country, states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh will also benefit from this expansion. For NVs, states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Telangana will see new schools.
This initiative will not only expand educational opportunities but also create 6,700 job opportunities, including 5,388 regular posts for KVs and 1,316 posts for NVs. Currently, 1,256 Kendriya Vidyalayas cater to 13.56 lakh students, including three international branches in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran. The expansion aligns with the government’s vision of making quality education accessible to students in all parts of the country.
