In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl. During the investigation, reports indicate that he inflicted injuries upon himself while attempting to flee from the Police.
The accused, identified as Bharat Soni, works as an auto-rickshaw driver in the area. He is alleged to have committed a grave crime, involving the rape and severe abuse of a girl approximately 12 years of age. This young victim was discovered in a state of distress, wandering the city streets.
The member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), who visited the girl said, the girl is admitted at an Indore hospital and has reported that her condition is gradually improving.
Ajay Verma, in charge of the Mahakal police station in Ujjain, provided insights into the arrest process. He explained that Bharat Soni was taken into custody by law enforcement during the course of the investigation. A critical moment occurred during the police's effort to reconstruct the crime scene and gather evidence, including the collection of the victim's torn clothing.
According to Verma, the accused made a desperate attempt to escape during the reconstruction of the crime scene. He managed to evade the police for a brief period but was ultimately captured after falling onto the cemented road while attempting to flee around a corner. This incident transpired near the Jeevan Khedi locality and resulted in injuries to two policemen.
Bharat Soni is the sole suspect in this case and resides in the Nanakheda area of Ujjain. Initial detainment of the accused was based on CCTV footage, and police reportedly discovered bloodstains on the passenger seat of his auto-rickshaw.
Reports indicate that the young victim in bad condition, sought assistance by going door to door. Unfortunately, her pleas went unanswered until she reached an Ashram, where a priest identified as Acharya Rahul Sharma provided help by covering her with a towel and promptly rushing her to the hospital.
"I was keeping track of the situation every hour. Such criminals are not fit to be a part of society. He has injured the soul of Madhya Pradesh. She is my daughter, the daughter of Madhya Pradesh. We will care about her," Chouhan added.
Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma said in a press conference, "An attempt was made to spread a narrative that no one helped her (the victim), but during our investigation, we found that people helped her financially, it would have been better if (more) help could have been provided. I thank the people of Indore for keeping faith in the police."
