University Grants Commission, UGC has launched the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate programs. The framework launched by UGC on December 12 will be implemented in the Higher Educational Institutes, HEIs. The newly developed Curriculum and Credit Framework revises the Choice Based Credit System, CBCS as recommended in the National Educational Policy, NEP 2020.
“In accordance with the NEP 2020, the UGC has formulated a new student-centric “Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP)” incorporating a flexible choice-based credit system, multidisciplinary approach, and multiple entry and exit options. This will facilitate students to pursue their career path by choosing the subject/field of their interest,” UGC in an official statement said.
The framework includes significant updates on restructured degree programs, multiple entry and exit, flexible degree options with single major, double major, and multi-inter-disciplinary choices, and a curriculum built with employability skills in addition to academic subjects.
One of the important features of new curriculum framework is the flexibility to move from one discipline of study to another. This framework provides opportunity for learners to choose the courses of their interest in all disciplines. It facilitates multiple entry and exit options with UG certificate/ UG diploma/ or degree depending upon the number of credits secured. The learners have the flexibility to move from one institution to another to enable them to have multi and/or interdisciplinary learning. The framework provides flexibility to switch to alternative modes of learning (offline, ODL, and Online learning, and hybrid modes of learning).
A student has to secure a minimum of 50% credits from the major discipline for the 3-year/4-year UG degree to be awarded a single major.
