During the holy month of Ramadan, the UAE has shown a great act of mercy by pardoning a large number of prisoners. Over 500 Indian nationals are among those released.
In late February, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,295 inmates, while Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum granted clemency to 1,518 prisoners. Every year during Ramadan, the UAE pardons prisoners as a gesture of justice, kindness, and strong diplomatic ties with India. This tradition reflects mercy and reconciliation, in keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has granted clemency to people of different nationalities who were in Dubai’s correctional facilities. This pardon gives them a chance to reunite with their families and return to society.
Dubai’s Attorney General, Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, stated that the decision shows Sheikh Mohammed’s commitment to giving a new chance to those who have completed their sentences. He confirmed that Dubai Public Prosecution, along with Dubai Police, has already started the legal process for their release. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is not only granting clemency to prisoners but also covering their financial debts. This step aims to ease the burden on both the prisoners and their families, helping them start fresh without financial worries and bringing stability to their homes.
Every year during Ramadan, the UAE grants pardons as a gesture of mercy and a chance for a fresh start. This tradition reflects the values of the Holy Month, such as forgiveness, kindness, and helping people reform. It also helps lower the number of prisoners and supports social harmony.
