Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday that two more Hurriyat-affiliated groups, J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat, have renounced separatism and aligned themselves with the vision of a united India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He emphasised that separatism is nearing its end and unity is prevailing across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharing the news on social media, Amit Shah stated, “Another great news from Kashmir Valley. Two more groups affiliated with the Hurriyat, namely J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat, have discarded separatism and reposed their trust in the new Bharat built by PM Shri @narendramodi Ji. Under the Modi government, separatism is breathing its last, and the triumph of unity is echoing across Kashmir.”
Significant Shift in J&K's Political Landscape
This development marks a crucial shift in Jammu and Kashmir’s political environment. The decision by these two Hurriyat-linked organisations to distance themselves from separatist ideology is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of the Modi government's policies aimed at fostering peace and unity in the region.
Earlier this week, Amit Shah had lauded a similar decision by other Hurriyat-affiliated groups to abandon separatist movements. He called it a “significant victory” for the vision of a peaceful and integrated India under PM Modi’s leadership.
The announcement from J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat is the latest in a series of developments that indicate a waning influence of separatist ideologies in Jammu and Kashmir. Over recent years, the government has implemented stringent anti-terrorism laws and socio-economic reforms to curb separatist activities and integrate the region more closely with the rest of India.
Amit Shah’s Call for More Groups to Join the Mainstream
Amit Shah reiterated that separatism is becoming a relic of the past in Kashmir, attributing this transformation to the Modi government’s unifying policies. He stated via his official ‘X’ handle, “Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K. Two organisations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism.”
He further urged other separatist-leaning groups to follow suit and embrace a unified India. “I welcome this step towards strengthening Bharat's unity and urge all such groups to come forward and shed separatism once and for all. It is a big victory for PM Shri @narendramodi Ji's vision of building a developed, peaceful, and unified Bharat,” he said.
The move by J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat reflects the evolving political scenario in the Union Territory, where separatist sentiments are steadily diminishing. With continued government efforts in law enforcement, economic growth and social stability, the region is witnessing a shift toward integration and development. As more groups distance themselves from separatism, the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir appears increasingly within reach.
