In a significant development aimed at averting a potential act of violence in Upper Assam, two grenades were recovered during a joint search operation conducted by the Assam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Thursday. The operation took place in the Dibrugarh district and is being hailed as a crucial step in ensuring public safety in the region.
The Assam Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, took to platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the success of the operation. In his statement, he highlighted that the recovery of the grenades effectively thwarted a plan for violence in Upper Assam, adding that the efforts of law enforcement agencies had ensured the safety of the area. "The plan for violence in Upper Assam has been foiled with the recovery of the grenades," Singh said in his post.
Police sources revealed that the operation was initiated after receiving a credible tip-off. Acting swiftly on the information, a joint team was assembled, which included personnel from the Assam Police, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), and members of the 171st Battalion of the CRPF. The search operation began around 2:00 AM in the early hours of Thursday near Jyotioni Gaon, Khatkhati, located under the jurisdiction of the Moran Police Station.
The search led to the discovery of two green bottle grenades that were hidden beneath a large Pipal tree. These explosive devices were seized in the presence of local witnesses, ensuring that all protocols were followed. Authorities have confirmed that the grenades are now in police custody, and the necessary legal procedures are being undertaken.
The successful operation has brought a sense of relief to residents in Upper Assam, as law enforcement continues to maintain vigilance against potential threats. Further investigation into the origin of the grenades and any possible links to insurgent activities is ongoing.
