US President Donald Trump has proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait” amid the ongoing conflict with Iran. Trump raised the idea in a post on his social media platform on Wednesday, asking whether the strategic waterway should be named after him. He claimed that the US now has control over the Strait and suggested that the new name would be more prominent than ever.

“Now that we have it under USA control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump ended the post by signing it as “President DONALD J. TRUMP”. His latest suggestion comes after he previously pushed for changes to the names of major geographic landmarks. However, the Strait of Hormuz is not US territory. The waterway lies between Iran and Oman and serves as an important international maritime passage. It is also a key route for global energy supplies.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Iran has lost control of the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing conflict. His claim that the US has control over the waterway does not change its international status or make it American territory. The strait remains located between Iran and Oman and plays a major role in international shipping and energy trade.

Trump has also used alternative names for other geographical locations. Earlier this year, he referred to Lake Ontario as “Lake America” in a post on Truth Social. The move came amid his continued disputes with Canada over trade and sovereignty. Trump has also repeatedly suggested that Canada could become the 51st US state. However, the internationally recognised name of Lake Ontario remains unchanged.

The latest comments came a day after Trump said the United States had “almost total control” of the Strait of Hormuz. He also claimed that Iran’s economy was “totally collapsing” as tensions continued to rise in the region. Trump said he was not trying to force Iran into negotiations and dismissed reports that he was seeking to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table.

“I'm not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn't care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable, he said.

Trump also called on people in Iran to challenge their government. “When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?” he asked in his post. His remarks came as military tensions continued to grow across the region.

Meanwhile, missile strikes were reported near the southwestern Iranian cities of Ahvaz and Aghajari, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB. The reports added to concerns over the continuing escalation between the United States and Iran.

The Deputy Minister of Security and Law Enforcement of the Khuzestan Governorate said that missiles targeted two locations around Ahvaz and Aghajari. “Two points around the cities of Ahvaz and Aghajari were attacked by missiles by the terrorist enemy of America. Additional news will be announced later,” the official said, according to IRIB

Trump’s proposal to rename the Strait of Hormuz comes at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. The waterway remains strategically important for global trade and energy supplies. His comments have also drawn attention to the wider dispute over control of the strait and the escalating military confrontation involving the two countries.
