After the deportation of Indians from the United States, the US State Department stated that human traffickers are the only ones benefiting from mass migration. They also highlighted the Trump administration's commitment to halting illegal immigration while prioritising the protection of "national borders and citizens."
"Many of the people who seek mass migration are often victimised along the way. It's not good for anyone. The only people who benefit from mass migration are traffickers," stated the US State Department in a post on social media platform X. "The Trump Administration is focused on stopping illegal migration and protecting both our borders and citizens," read the post. A US Air Force plane carrying 104 Indian citizens, who were reportedly involved in illegal migration to the US, landed in Amritsar on Wednesday.
S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, had stated a day earlier that all countries are obligated to repatriate their citizens from other countries if they are discovered to be living there illegally. Jaishankar also touched upon the government’s engagement with the US administration to ensure that all of its citizens are not mistreated. In his remarks to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday regarding the deportation of Indian nationals by the United States, Jaishankar stated that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is responsible for organising and carrying out these deportations and that the ICE standard operating procedure for deportation by aircraft began in 2013. He further said that here has been no change from previous procedures for the flight that the United States conducted on February 5.
"Deportations by the US are organised and executed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities. The standard operating procedure for deportation by aircraft used by ICE has been effective since 2012. I repeat, that is effective from 2012 and provides for the use of restraints. However, we have been informed by ICE that women and children are not restrained. Further, the needs of deportees including during transit, related to food and other necessities, including possible medical emergencies are attended to. During toilet breaks, deportees are temporarily unrestrained if needed in that regard,” Jaishankar remarked.
