Iranian state media has reported that Seyed Majid Khademi, the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on April 6, 2026. The strike took place at dawn, though officials have not revealed the exact location of the attack.
Khademi had served for nearly five decades and was a key figure in Iran’s intelligence and security system. According to an IRGC statement, he played a major role in preventing infiltration attempts and maintaining the stability of the regime. His death is seen as another major setback for Iran’s leadership during the ongoing conflict.
This attack comes after a series of high-profile killings of senior Iranian officials. Last month, Israel targeted Ali Larijani, who was considered one of the most powerful figures after the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with intelligence minister Esmail Khatib. Earlier strikes also killed IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour, Basij force chief Gholamreza Soleimani, and defence minister Aziz Nasirzadeh.
Security experts say that Khademi’s death weakens the IRGC’s intelligence division, which functions separately from Iran’s regular military and reports directly to the Supreme Leader. The IRGC is not only responsible for protecting the ideals of the 1979 Islamic Revolution but also controls large economic sectors, often being described as a “state within a state.”
The United States and Israel have stated that they will continue targeting Iran’s top leadership, including Mojtaba Khamenei.
