Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth leader Saayoni Ghosh has been detained and charged with attempted murder in Tripura, according to numerous reports. TMC Minister Sushmita Dev stated she along with numerous TMC workers were attacked in front of the police station in Agartala today, bringing this incident to light.

A tweet by Ghosh showed she was crossing a meeting zone in her car, where Tripura CM Biplab Deb was delivering a speech. Saayoni Ghosh was also seen mocking the poor turnout at the gathering.

As per the visuals accessed by Republic TV, a lathi-charge had to be done by the police to bring the situation under control. The attack took place near the women's police station in East Agartala. The ruckus broke out against the backdrop of Saayoni Ghosh's arrest. The TMC leader was arrested under Section 307 of the IPC (attempt to murder) after more than 3-hours of interrogation on Sunday evening over her "Khela Hobe Biplab Babu" tweet.

Speaking to Republic TV, TMC MP Saugata Roy said that the targeting of TMC leaders had shown the "true colours" of the BJP government. "The Bipab Deb government is showing its colours. Yesterday BJP interrupted the meeting by TMC leaders, today Saayoni Ghosh was attacked and she has been arrested in Agartala. This shows the colours of the BJP government led by Bipalb Deb," he said.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, who was present at the spot, said there is “jungle raj” in Tripura. “We were beaten up in front of the police but they did not say anything. On the contrary, we are being booked and harassed [by the police].”

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee posted a video on Twitter in which a person is bleeding and a group of police personnel can be seen standing in the area.

He wrote, "Biplab Deb has become so unabashedly brazen that now even Supreme Court orders don't seem to bother him. He has repeatedly sent goons to attack our supporters and our female candidates instead of ensuring their safety. Democracy being mocked under BJP."
