Three terrorists were killed in Baramulla by security forces in a gunfight after two soldiers lost their lives in an encounter earlier at Kishtawar. Security cordon has tightened ahead of PM Modi’s visit to J&K’s Doda.
Two soldiers lost their lives and two others were wounded during a gunfight with terrorists in Chatroo village, Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday. The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army shared the news on the social media platform X, accompanied by photos of the fallen soldiers. “White Knight Corps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of the #Bravehearts; offer deepest condolences to the families,” the corps wrote in a post on X.
The deceased have been identified as Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar and Sepoy Arvind Singh. The soldiers who were wounded have been shifted to a hospital. Additional forces have been dispatched to the area to further bolster forces already stationed in the area for conducting anti-terror operations. A gunfight broke out when a joint team of security forces comprising the Army and police launched a cordon-and-search operation acting on intelligence inputs in the Naidgham area of the Chhatroo belt. Earlier in the day, the corps had announced that it had launched a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police based on intelligence inputs.
Confirming the incident, the corps informed that the contact with the terrorists was established at 3.30 PM. Based on the intelligence inputs, a joint operation with J&K Police was launched in area Chatroo at #Kishtwar,” the corps said. According to security forces, two terrorists were killed in the dispatch at J&K’s Khandara, Kathua. “Two terrorists were neutralised in the ongoing operation at Khandara Kathua by troops of the Rising Star Corps. Operations in progress,” the Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army posted on X.
The encounters have been reported before polls. The first phase of voting will take place on September 18 in eight Assembly segments in the Chenab Valley region comprising the Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts. In the south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam, as many as 16 seats will go to the polls on this date as well.
The polls in Jammu, Kathua, and Samba districts are to take place during the second and third phases on 25 September and 1 October, respectively.
