Three crew members are missing after an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea on Monday. The helicopter was deployed to rescue an injured crew member from a tanker off the Porbandar coast in Gujarat.
In an official statement, the Indian Coast Guard confirmed that the helicopter took off around 11 p.m. on Monday, September 2, to evacuate an injured crew member from the Motor Tanker Hari Leela, located approximately 45 kilometres from Porbandar. The request for assistance had come from the master of the vessel.
The helicopter, carrying four crew members, made an emergency landing in the sea while approaching the vessel to carry out the evacuation. According to the ICG's statement, “One crew has been recovered and search for the remaining three crew is in progress,” with the aircraft wreckage having been located.
The Indian Coast Guard has launched a search operation involving four ships and two aircraft to locate the missing crew members. A post on the official X handle of the Indian Coast Guard detailed the ongoing rescue efforts:

Additionally, the Coast Guard had recently evacuated 19 people from villages such as Mahiyari, Nayad Vistar, and Dharsan on August 29, and rescued another 31 villagers from Parida and Mufatnagar. The Coast Guard reported, “A total of 111 persons have been rescued/evacuated in the ongoing rescue operation by #ICG.”
The search and rescue operations continue as the Indian Coast Guard remains committed to finding the missing crew members and ensuring the safety of all involved.
