There are so many commentaries regarding the stupendous win of Modi. However, another important question to reflect on is that what caused such a downfall of Congress? What was that one thing that was missing? Note that during such a big election there would always be some rhetoric. Every party did such rhetorics! If you know the answer, great! If not, stop here. It is CREDIBILITY!

 Congress didn’t build its credibility. They were always in two minds, whether to support Secularism (whatever it means) or Appeasement. They didn’t decide in time and even now they are not really in a position to decide.

Look at three important things that I think every Indian observed. Let me briefly state them here. I have no doubt whether a person is from (or supporting) BJP, Congress, Ghatbandhan, Communists, I am sure he would be having the following confusion in his mind.

1. Modi is a chor: Very important thing one should notice is that before you call other a chor, you have to set exemplary standards. People of India are known to forgive & forget. But opposition parties never did anything to instill confidence and bring the credibility.
2. Hindu or Muslim? Congress didn’t decide whether they want to support Hindu cause, customs, etc., or Muslim appeasement. While my words may be a bit biased, people saw their temple hopping as lack of credibility. People couldn’t identify themselves whole heartedly. Modi on the other hand always talked about all Indians. He also talked about the poor.
3. Alternatives: The opposition parties never talked about the alternatives for BJP. What was the credible alternative? This problem was because of the lack of belief in each other. Opposition parties, of course, made up of people who are just like us – made of flesh & blood. The lack of belief in each other, again, was due to the lack of credibility. At least Congress could have said openly they support a particular ideology. This lack of trust amongst them (due to lack of credibility) caused them heavily. This is exemplified in Karnataka tally of Congress & JDS.

In brief, credibility stems from the core values. If you don’t have values enshrined in your heart then your deeds couldn’t bring credibility. What you say should be what you mean and should be what you do!!
