Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Israeli counterpart spoke on Monday, September 30, amid escalating tensions in West Asia due to the recent violent conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah organisation.
After his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, PM Modi took to X to share the conclusion of his meeting. He said, “Spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about recent developments in West Asia. Terrorism has no place in our world.”
In addition, PM Modi also stressed India's dedication to aiding in the prompt restoration of peace and stability in the area. “It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages. India is committed to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability,” said he.
The Middle East's peace is at risk due to the growing tension between Israel and Hezbollah. As Israel continued its attacks on the Gaza Strip, sporadic fighting between the two grew more intense after Hamas gunmen started the war in Gaza. As a show of support for the Palestinians, Hezbollah continued its attacks on Israeli positions, while Israel's retaliation gave Hamas a serious blow.
Since then, Hezbollah has fired more than 8,000 rockets into the Golan Heights, which is under Israeli occupation, and northern Israel. In addition, the group has used explosive drones to attack military targets and anti-tank missiles to target armoured vehicles. In response, the Israel Defence forces (IDF) have hit Hezbollah positions in Lebanon with continuous artillery fire, tanks, and airstrikes.
