A Hindu temple in Bangladesh was targeted in a bomb attack, while two Hindu men were killed in separate incidents, raising concerns over the safety of religious minorities in the country. A minority rights organisation has highlighted these incidents and warned about continued violence against minority communities.
According to reports, the temple attack took place in Cumilla city, where a crude bomb exploded inside the premises of the Kaligachhtala Kali temple during evening prayers. The explosion occurred while devotees had gathered for Shani Puja, causing panic among worshippers present at the site. The blast left three people injured, including the temple priest.
Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage showed that a masked individual entered the temple carrying a bag while prayers were underway. The man allegedly placed the bag inside the temple and quickly left the premises. Moments later, the explosive device went off, creating chaos among the devotees who were attending the religious ceremony.
The injured included the temple priest and two other individuals who were present near the site. All of them were taken to a hospital for medical treatment soon after the explosion. Police officials later visited the temple and began an investigation into the incident.
Officials said that CCTV footage from the temple premises had been collected and was being examined to identify the person responsible for the attack. Police also stated that they were working to determine the motive behind the bombing.
A local police officer said, “We have collected CCTV footage from the scene. The matter is under investigation. It is not possible to say right now why or who carried out the crude explosions. However, operations are ongoing to arrest those involved.”
Authorities also confirmed that additional explosive devices were found near the area. According to reports, two more crude bombs were placed near nearby buildings, including a Buddhist site and a nearby office. These devices also exploded shortly after the temple blast, injuring two more individuals.
Meanwhile, in separate incidents reported in other parts of Bangladesh, two Hindu men were killed. These killings have further increased concerns among minority communities about their safety.
A minority rights organisation, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, raised the issue and expressed concern over the repeated attacks on minorities in the country. The organisation said that such incidents highlight the growing vulnerability of minority communities.
Members of the rights group called for strict action against those responsible for the attacks and demanded that the authorities ensure the safety and security of minority communities across the country.
The organisation also urged the government to conduct a fair investigation into the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
Local community leaders said that attacks on temples and members of the minority community have created fear among people living in the area. They added that such incidents disturb communal harmony and create insecurity among religious minorities.
Officials confirmed that investigations are underway in all the reported cases. Authorities said that Police teams have been deployed in the affected areas, and efforts are being made to identify and arrest those involved.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the temple bombing. Police officials said they are analysing evidence from the site and examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
The incidents have once again drawn attention to the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh. Rights groups and community leaders have urged the authorities to take strong steps to prevent further attacks and ensure protection for religious minorities.
Investigations into the temple blast and the killings are continuing, and authorities said further details will be shared once more information becomes available.
