Telangana election campaign: BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy attacked in Siddipet

Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, a Member of Parliament from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and a close associate of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was stabbed while participating in a campaign event held in Siddipet. Police authorities confirmed this event and mentioned that Mr. Reddy's life was not at risk. Following the attack, he was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, as reported by ANI, with the information coming from police sources.
Reddy is the candidate of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for the upcoming November 30 polls in the Dubbaka assembly segment. This incident involves a prominent political figure and has the potential to impact the ongoing political campaign in Siddipet and possibly beyond. “MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is safe. The incident took place in Surampally village of the Daulatabad mandal. He has been shifted to Gajwel. The alleged accused is in custody, we are investigating the matter”, N Swetha, Siddipet Commissioner, told ANI.
Following the incident, the Member of Parliament from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, was promptly taken to a hospital in Gajwel where he received initial medical assistance. Medical professionals reported that his condition was stable at that time, but as a precaution, he was referred to a hospital in Secunderabad for further treatment. Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, the MP, represents the Medak constituency in Telangana.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the Doulthabad mandal while Prabhakar Reddy, who is the BRS's candidate for the Dubbaka assembly segment in the upcoming November 30 assembly elections, was actively engaged in campaigning. During the event, television footage captured Prabhakar Reddy applying pressure to the stab wound on his abdomen in an effort to control the bleeding while seated in a vehicle.
In the alleged stabbing of the Member of Parliament, local residents reportedly intervened and "subdued" the individual responsible for the attack.
Siddipet Commissioner of Police, N Swetha, confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended and is presently in custody. Authorities are in the process of verifying his identity.
Following the incident, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan instructed the state's Director General of Police (DGP) to implement measures to guarantee the safety and security of all election candidates, underscoring the significance of protecting contestants during this crucial phase.
