The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its election manifesto for Tamil Nadu, outlining a mix of welfare schemes and governance reforms while strongly criticising the ruling DMK government. The manifesto was unveiled by party president JP Nadda, who described the occasion as “auspicious” as it coincided with the Tamil New Year. He also highlighted that the day marks the 150th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar.
Speaking at the event, Nadda said Tamil Nadu represents “the cradle of the world’s oldest civilisation” and expressed pride in the state’s rich cultural heritage. He invoked iconic figures such as Thiruvalluvar and Subramania Bharati to underline the cultural depth of the region.
On the welfare front, the BJP made several key promises to ease the financial burden on households. The party announced a monthly assistance of ₹2,000 for women heads of families. It also promised three free LPG cylinders every year. In addition, a one-time payment of ₹10,000 has been proposed for every household to help offset the impact of rising taxes and increasing living costs.
The manifesto also focuses on women’s mobility and empowerment. It includes a subsidy of ₹25,000 for eligible women to purchase e-scooters. Another provision promises ₹2,000 per month to individuals who rear jallikattu bulls, recognising the cultural importance of the sport. In case of deaths during participation in jallikattu events, the party has proposed an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakh to the families.
Further financial support measures include a 3% concession on stamp duty for first-time women homebuyers. The BJP also proposed a one-time household assistance scheme of ₹10,000. It added that existing support measures will continue, including ₹8,000 coupons for purchasing household goods.
Religious and cultural aspects also find mention in the manifesto. The BJP proposed two-hour daily darshan slots in major temples, reserved specifically for local residents. It also assured the continuation of traditional rituals such as the Karthigai Deepam festival, including the ceremonial lighting atop Thiruparankundram hill.
On governance and law and order, Nadda launched a strong attack on the DMK government. He alleged that Tamil Nadu has witnessed a 51% rise in drug-related offences under the current regime. He accused the ruling party of corruption and described it as being driven by family rule. He also named several DMK leaders in connection with alleged scams, including cash-for-jobs and irregularities in tenders, calling the party “protectors of corruption.”
The BJP outlined steps to improve safety and policing in the state. It proposed the implementation of Zero FIR across police stations to ensure faster registration of complaints. The party also promised fast-track courts for handling heinous crimes. To strengthen surveillance and safety, it announced plans to install 100 CCTV cameras in buses, schools, and universities.
Overall, the manifesto combines welfare-driven promises with strong political messaging against the ruling government. It seeks to appeal to women, rural communities, and cultural groups while positioning the BJP as a party focused on governance, safety, and economic relief.
