The Taliban-led Ministry of National Defence of Afghanistan on Sunday claimed that it carried out coordinated airstrikes on several important military bases inside Pakistan, including the strategic Nur Khan Airbase near Rawalpindi.
In a statement posted on X, Afghanistan’s defence ministry said, “Today, the Air Force of the Ministry of National Defence conducted precise and coordinated aerial operations against key military installations in Pakistan targeting the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, the 12th Division headquarters in Quetta (Balochistan), the Khwazai Camp in the Mohmand Agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as several other significant Pakistani military facilities and command centres.”
The ministry described these locations as important defence facilities and operational centres. It said that the operation was carried out using drones and other air force capabilities.
According to the statement, “Based on preliminary assessments, the strikes successfully caused significant damage to the intended targets.” However, no specific details were provided about the level of destruction or casualties.
The Afghan defence ministry said that the airstrikes were conducted in response to recent actions by the Pakistani military. It accused Pakistan of carrying out aerial incursions and attacks in Afghan areas, including Kabul and Bagram.
The statement further warned Pakistan against any future actions. It said, “It should be emphasised that any further violations of our airspace or acts of aggression by hostile Pakistani elements will be met with a swift, decisive, and proportionate response, Inshallah.”
Among the targets mentioned was the 12th Division headquarters in Quetta, Balochistan, and Khwazai Camp in the Mohmand Agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ministry said these sites were struck as part of the same coordinated operation.
The ministry also shared visuals, which it claimed showed kamikaze drones being launched and striking Pakistani military installations, including Nur Khan Airbase. The visuals were posted as evidence of the operation.
The Nur Khan Airbase is considered one of Pakistan’s key air force facilities. The Afghan defence ministry identified it as one of the main targets in its operation.
The announcement comes at a time of rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to the report, recent cross-border clashes have increased, with both sides accusing each other of military aggression.
Pakistan had earlier declared what it described as an “open war” situation following renewed clashes along the border. It had also reportedly carried out airstrikes in Afghan cities as part of its response.
The Afghan ministry’s statement did not provide independent verification of the damage caused, and there was no immediate official confirmation or denial from Pakistan regarding the claims of strikes on its military bases.
The ministry maintained that its actions were retaliatory and directly linked to Pakistan’s earlier air operations in Afghan territory.
The situation has added to the already tense relations between the two neighbouring countries. Both sides have exchanged strong statements in recent days, accusing each other of violating sovereignty and supporting hostile actions.
As of the time of reporting, there were no further official updates regarding casualties, additional damage assessments, or diplomatic responses from either side.
The Afghan defence ministry reiterated that it considered the operation successful based on its initial evaluation and repeated its warning against any further airspace violations.
The developments mark a serious escalation in the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with direct strikes claimed on major military installations.
