Over 250 passengers, including several Indians, have been stuck at an airport in Turkey for more than 24 hours. Their Virgin Atlantic flight from London to Mumbai had to be diverted and landed at Diyarbakir airport.
Virgin Atlantic said on Thursday that it is looking at all possible options, including sending another aircraft, to take the passengers to Mumbai. The airline announced that the VS358 flight from London's Heathrow to Mumbai on April 2 was cancelled because of an emergency medical diversion to Diyarbakir, Turkey. After landing at the airport, the A350-1000 aircraft experienced a technical problem, which is currently being addressed. "We are actively exploring all options, including the operation of an alternative aircraft, to ensure customers can reach Mumbai as soon as possible," it said.
A stranded passenger told PTI that they were all sitting on the floor and there were no blankets provided. "Also, there is no vegetarian food available," the passenger stated on the condition of anonymity. Virgin Atlantic has updated its statement, saying that passengers are being given hotel stays for the night and food and drinks while in Turkey. More than 300 Indian and British citizens were stuck in Turkey in an "awful situation," according to a passenger who wrote on X. Hanuman Dass said that his family is one of those who are stranded.
"Doing nothing to help the people, 1 toilet for 300 people and held in a confined space for over 15 hours. @VirginAtlantic staff nowhere to be seen. My family is caught up," he said in a post. In another post, he mentioned that the passengers haven't received any information, and it's been 27 hours since they departed from London.
