On Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated that attention should be shifted away from Russian President Putin and directed toward domestic issues, especially concerns about migrants involved in criminal exercises within the country.
Trump penned on his Truth Social handle that "We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country - So that we don't end up like Europe!"
The President's comment came shortly after a tense exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a White House press briefing.
Trump criticised Zelenskyy as "disrespectful" during their confrontation, which ended with the Ukrainian leader leaving without finalising a planned agreement on mineral rights sharing.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with Zelenskyy, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that he had collaborated with France and Ukraine on a proposal to end the war. He added that a group of primarily European leaders had reached a consensus on four key points.
The meeting, led by Starmer, was held at Lancaster House, a historic site near Buckingham Palace. It followed his diplomatic discussions with Macron to persuade Trump to prioritise Ukraine in negotiations and reinforce European alliances.
The summit brought together representatives from Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania. Turkey’s foreign minister, NATO’s secretary-general, and the presidents of the European Commission and European Council President were also present.
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, a vocal critic of Trump, accused, "The White House has become an arm of the Kremlin."
Earlier, in an interview with CNN, he remarked, "It appears America is trying to align itself with dictators."
Meanwhile, Trump's Republican party has greatly supported him, with senior officials suggesting that Zelenskyy step down to facilitate a peace agreement with Moscow.
"We need a leader that can deal with us, eventually deal with the Russians, and end this war," National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told CNN on Sunday.
