Spain becomes 99th member of International Solar Alliance

Spain has officially become the 99th member of the International Solar Alliance. The country handed over its Instrument of Ratification during a meeting in New Delhi between Spain's Ambassador to India, Jose Maria Ridao Dominguez, and the Head of Depository, Joint Secretary (ED and MER) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Abhishek Singh. MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the development.
In a post on X, MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced, "Spain has become the 99th member of the International Solar Alliance." He added that Spain's Ambassador to India, Jose Maria Ridao Dominguez, handed over the Instrument of Ratification to the Head of Depository, Joint Secretary (ED and MER) Abhishek Singh, during a meeting in New Delhi.
India and France jointly launched the International Solar Alliance (ISA) during COP21 in Paris. According to an MEA press release, the ISA aims to support the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and large-scale deployment of solar energy.
The ISA's website describes the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as an action-oriented, member-driven platform that promotes the deployment of solar energy technologies to enhance energy access, ensure energy security, and drive energy transition among its member countries. Currently, 116 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement, with 94 of them having submitted the necessary instruments of ratification to become full members.
The Sixth Assembly of the ISA took place in New Delhi from October 30 to November 2, 2023. In March, Panama officially ratified the International Solar Alliance, becoming its 97th member nation, as announced by MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
