A remark made by a Samajwadi Party MLA about the growing Muslim population and the end of BJP's rule has caused a political controversy in Uttar Pradesh. The statements were made at a public event in Bijnor by Mehboob Ali, a former state minister and Amroha MLA.
In a video that surfaced, Mehboob Ali can be heard saying, “Your rule will come to an end. The population of Muslims is increasing. We will come to power. The Mughals ruled for 850 years, they could not... those who are burning the country must note that the people have woken up. They gave a reply in Parliament (polls). And in the coming days, in 2027, you will surely go and we will come.”
On the other hand, the BJP has responded sharply to the statements made by the Samajwadi Party legislator. Subrat Pathak, a former MP and general secretary of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, said that the MLA’s comments raise issues that the Samajwadi Party needs to answer. Is this why (Samajwadi Party chief) Akhilesh Yadav is busy dividing Hindus? So that a particular community's wish is fulfilled?” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav needs to keep in mind that the nation has changed, according to the BJP leader. “The Hindus have made Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time and Yogi Adityanath the Chief Minister for two terms.”
The leader of the Samajwadi Party, Sunil Sajan, stated that the party disagrees with Mehboob Ali's assertion that the BJP will lose because of the rise in the Muslim population. “But it is true that inflation has increased, unemployment has increased, BJP's corruption has increased, their lies have increased, their politics of hate has increased... the borders are not secure, states are burning and the Prime Minister is silent. So a large population wants to ensure the BJP's defeat. So the BJP is not here for long,” he added.
