South Korea has provided $1 million in aid to Afghanistan, a nation facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The aid was channeled through the United Nations' Humanitarian Coordination Office, according to a report by Khaama Press.
The United Nations Humanitarian Coordination Office (OCHA) announced via social media that South Korea has contributed one million dollars to support humanitarian initiatives in Afghanistan. According to Khaama Press, these funds will be allocated to critical "life-saving activities" in the country.
Remarkably, the OCHA reported that South Korea has allocated more than 18 million dollars to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund since 2014.
According to Khaama Press, recent distressing events in Afghanistan, such as the surge in the deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan and Iran, a devastating earthquake in Herat, and the impact of climate change, have exacerbated the country's humanitarian crisis. ARY News reported that more than 167,000 Afghan nationals living in Pakistan without legal status have voluntarily returned to Afghanistan.
The apex committee of the National Action Plan (NAP), headed by Pakistan's interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, made a significant decision on October 3. They granted foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan a window of opportunity until October 31 to leave voluntarily, or they would be subject to deportation.
In a separate development, the World Food Programme (WFP) highlighted a concerning situation, revealing that approximately 15.3 million people in Afghanistan are experiencing severe food insecurity. This underscores the pressing humanitarian challenges faced by the Afghan population.
Furthermore, an estimated 28 million Afghans are in urgent need of emergency assistance. Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, the organization has been forced to reduce aid to struggling families.
In addition, survivors of the recent earthquake in Herat, Afghanistan, are facing dire circumstances, lacking access to essential life necessities and residing in unhygienic conditions. This concerning situation is highlighted in a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizing the need for immediate support to address these pressing issues.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has underscored the substantial health risks tackling survivors of the earthquake in Herat. These risks encompass a range of challenges, such as the potential for infectious and waterborne diseases, mental health disorders, as well as social and psychological difficulties.
Additionally, there's a heightened concern about the vulnerability of these survivors to physical and sexual violence, as outlined in the organization's report. This emphasizes the urgent need for comprehensive support to address these multifaceted health-related issues.
