In response to reports of blasphemous acts within the Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara complex in Pakistan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has strongly condemned the incident. He has called for stringent action against those responsible for organizing an alcohol party within the sacred premises of the Gurudwara.
He stated, "The PMU Kartarpur Corridor committee in Narowal including the local Deputy Commissioner and DSP of Kartarpur Gurdwara administration organised a dance party. Consumed alcohol and meat...Strict action should be taken against them. I condemn this act strongly and appeal to the Pakistan Govt to register a case against them and put them behind bars."
Furthermore, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, labeled the incident as "unfortunate" and urged the Pakistani government to take decisive action against the individuals responsible.
Expressing deep concern, Giani Harpreet Singh, the Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, termed the incident as highly unfortunate, emphasizing that Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara holds significant religious value for the Sikh community.
He called upon the Pakistani government to take immediate action against those responsible. Gurcharan Singh Grewal, the spokesperson for the Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) said the Sikh community's demand for accountability, urging the Jathedar of Akal Takht Kartarpur Sahib to clarify his stance on the matter. Grewal emphasized the need for assurance that such incidents would be prevented in the future.
The entire Sikh community strongly condemns the disgraceful incident, urging the Pakistani government to take immediate action. Gurcharan Singh Grewal, spokesperson for the Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), called for a clear statement from the Jathedar of Akal Takht Kartarpur Sahib to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
In a similar incident that happened in 2021, the Gurdwara complex faced criticism on social media when bareheaded photos of a Pakistani model were circulated, prompting widespread public disapproval.
Expressing concern over the incident, Harjinder Singh Dhami, the president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), and Harmeet Singh Kalka, the president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), have acknowledged a video circulating on the matter, as reported by Khalsa Vox.
President Dhami, highlighting the potential implications, noted that if the event transpired within the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib complex, it would constitute a violation of 'maryada' (Sikh code of conduct) and could significantly impact Sikh sentiments, especially considering the sacred association of the location with Guru Nanak Dev.
The incident has revived concerns regarding the imperative for rigorous adherence to Sikh 'rehat maryada' (code of conduct) and the responsible administration of religious sites. Khalsa Vox reported that the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, with its immense significance for Sikhs globally, is now under scrutiny due to the incident. Any perceived disrespect within this sacred site is likely to provoke strong reactions from the Sikh community. The incident underscores the necessity for maintaining the sanctity of religious practices and sites.
