Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed surprise at his wife Parvathi's decision to forfeit all 14 plots that the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) had granted her. His remarks were in reference to the current dispute surrounding the purported MUDA land allotment scam.
The Karnataka chief minister claimed on social media platform X that the people are aware of the untrue accusations made against him by the opposition parties in an attempt to incite political animosity. “...My stand was to fight without bowing down to this injustice. But my wife, who is upset with the political conspiracy against me, decided to return these plots, which has surprised me,” he wrote.
Siddaramaiah further added, “My wife, who has never been involved in my four decades of political career…is now a victim of the hate directed at me…I apologise for that. Despite this, I fully respect her decision….”
According to reports, a day earlier Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvathi had written to the MUDA Commissioner expressing her willingness to return the 14 sites. Parvati wrote the letter following the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) Monday charges against Siddaramaiah, his spouse, and several other individuals in relation to a money laundering case involving the alleged scam.
The matter concerns the claims that, in contrast to the original land that MUDA "acquired," Siddaramaiah's wife was granted compensatory plots in a more valuable part of Mysore. The landowners received 50% of the developed land in return for their undeveloped land, which was utilised to lay out residential plans, from the organisation that gave Parvathi these plots.
The 3.16 acres in question are said to be outside of Parvathi's legal ownership. On September 27, the Karnataka Lokayukta police, acting on an order from a special court, filed a case against Siddaramaiah. Parvathi had stated in her letter that the accusations had hurt her, and as a result, she had chosen to return the sites. The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that the letter was an admission of guilt and demanded the CM's resignation.
