AK rifle rounds, cartridges, pistol rounds and three grenade levers were found during a raid at the Kashmir Times newspaper office in Jammu, sources told CNN News18.
The State Investigation Agency carried out the raid at the office on Residency Road in Jammu after alleging that the newspaper had shared content that could harm the sovereignty of the country.
Officials said that SIA teams searched the premises carefully and checked the computers after a case was filed against the publication and its promoters.
The SIA filed an FIR against “Kashmir Times" for articles that were seen as a threat to public law and order. The newspaper office in Press Enclave, Srinagar, had already been sealed by the J and K Administration in October 2020.
In a statement, Kashmir Times said that the raid was another effort to suppress their voice.
“We are being targeted precisely because we continue to do this work. In an era when critical voices are increasingly scarce, we remain one of the few independent outlets willing to speak truth to power. The accusations levelled against us are designed to intimidate, to delegitimise, and ultimately to silence. We will not be silenced," the statement said.
Reacting to the raid, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Singh Choudhary said that action should be taken only when actual wrongdoing is found and should not be used to create pressure.
“If they have done something wrong, then action should be taken…if you do it only to (build) pressure, then that will be wrong", Choudhary said.
