Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah sworn as Kuwait's new emir, calls for review of administration and security

In his first address after being formally sworn in, Kuwait's new emir, Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, strongly rebuked lawmakers and executive authorities. He expressed concern about actions he deemed detrimental to the country and its citizens.
Specifically, Sheikh Meshal criticized the authorities for appointing individuals to positions that, in his view, did not adhere to basic principles of justice and fairness. This critique was part of his broader remarks delivered after taking the constitutional oath in the National Assembly.
The new Kuwaiti emir, Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, raised objections, citing concerns over the pardoning of convicts and opposition figures, as well as the perceived erosion of the Kuwaiti identity. In his address, he emphasized the need for a thorough review of the current state of affairs, particularly in terms of security, the economy, and living conditions.
Sheikh Meshal underscored the importance of vigilant oversight, responsible accountability, and adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks to address negligence, dereliction, and actions detrimental to the interests of citizens. He affirmed Kuwait's commitment to maintaining its obligations at the Gulf, regional, and international levels.
At 83 years old, Sheikh Meshal emphasized the crucial importance of vigilant oversight and objective accountability within Kuwait's constitutional and legal frameworks. He expressed his commitment to addressing issues of negligence, dereliction, and any actions that might compromise the interests of citizens.
Furthermore, Sheikh Meshal affirmed Kuwait's unwavering dedication to upholding its commitments on the Gulf, regional, and international stages. During much of his half-brother Sheikh Nawaf's reign, Sheikh Meshal played a pivotal role as the day-to-day ruler, particularly in light of Sheikh Nawaf's health challenges. Following the passing of his half-brother and predecessor, Sheikh Meshal assumed the responsibilities of Kuwait's leadership.
