The Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar's spokesperson, Clyde Crasto, announced that the Election Commission of India has allocated the symbol of "man blowing turha" to the party.
He informed PTI that their candidates will participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections using this symbol. In its order, the ECI stated that 'Man blowing turha' is the new symbol of NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar.
In a post on X, the Nationalist Congress Party - Sharadchandra Pawar expressed its profound privilege in adopting the "Tutari" or "Man Blowing Turha" as its symbol for the upcoming elections. The "Tutari," a classic trumpet also known as "tutari," symbolizes the immense valour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, resonating to the point of deafening the emperor of Delhi in historical accounts. The party, under the guidance of Sharadchandra Pawar, aims to make a resounding impact on Delhi's political landscape with the "Tutari" symbol.
In a significant setback to its founder Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission allotted the NCP's symbol 'Wall Clock' to the Ajit Pawar faction of the party.
Since July 2023, a factional dispute has arisen between the uncle, Sharad Pawar, and his nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar rebelled against Sharad Pawar and subsequently joined the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra, leading to a split within the NCP.
On February 21, the Bombay High Court issued notices to MLAs associated with the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP and Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar. This action came in response to a plea challenging the Speaker's recent decision regarding the disqualification petitions filed by the party led by Ajit Pawar.
The court has scheduled a further hearing on March 14 regarding the matter. Anil Bhaidas Patil, the chief whip of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, filed two petitions challenging the Speaker's decision.
The petitions contested the Speaker's choice not to disqualify 10 MLAs from the Sharad Pawar faction. Patil requested the court to nullify Speaker Rahul Narwekar's recent order, citing legal flaws, and sought the disqualification of all 10 legislators.
The NCP, founded by Sharad Pawar, witnessed a division in July of the previous year when Ajit Pawar and eight other MLAs switched allegiance and joined the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra.
This decision resulted in a split within the NCP, and the allocation of distinct symbols underscores the ongoing discord between the uncle and nephew. Following this, the Election Commission of India granted the party name and the symbol of a 'clock' to the faction headed by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
