Several US military aircraft were damaged in an overnight Iranian strike on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to a CBS report. The base is a key US airpower hub and hosts dozens of American warplanes involved in operations against Iran.

An A-10 Thunderbolt, also known as the Warthog, was hit during the attack and left with a missing wing. Around eight F-15 fighter jets also suffered light damage. CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs said the F-15s were later returned to service.

"American forces in Jordan launched more than 30 Patriot missiles defending against the Iranian strikes. The overnight damage came after the US attacked five Iranian tankers in retaliation for Iran targeting a US Navy warship. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed they launched attacks at eight tankers and two warships, including the base in Jordan," she wrote in a post on X.

The attack came after US forces sank five Iranian tankers earlier this week. Iran responded by launching attacks on several American bases and allied targets across the region.

In a statement reported by the state-backed IRNA news agency, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had carried out a "punitive operation" against US positions. The Guards said they "struck the American Al-Azraq base in Jordan with heavy missile strikes".

Iran also said it had attacked more than a dozen vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran announced an expansion of a no-go zone outside the strategic waterway, which it has blockaded for months.

Jordan's military said its air defence systems detected 20 incoming ballistic missiles during the attack. It said 18 missiles were successfully destroyed, while two struck unpopulated areas. The military said its defence network had intercepted and neutralised the incoming projectiles.

Meanwhile, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the war could end if Washington accepted several conditions. The demands included an end to renewed US threats, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon, an end to the blockade of Yemen, the release of frozen Iranian assets and no interference in Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities.

"It must... refrain from renewed threats, withdraw the Israeli regime's army from Lebanon, end the blockade of Yemen, release $24 billion in Iran's frozen assets and refrain from any interference in the country's nuclear and missile capabilities," Mohebi said, according to Fars news agency.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he expects the war to end immediately after the US midterm elections in November. His comments came as his Republican Party faces the possibility of losing control of one or both chambers of Congress.

"I think the war will end immediately after the election" because Iran "can't hold out any longer," Trump told journalists. He accused Tehran of being "desperate to try and affect" the vote.

The Wall Street Journal reported that senior US officials have privately warned Trump's top advisers that the conflict could continue through the remaining two years of his term.
