A special court on Tuesday allowed the Lokayukta police to continue their investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the land allocation case of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his family, and other individuals are under investigation for allegedly misusing their positions to obtain land allocations against the law. The court allowed the investigation to continue after the Lokayukta police submitted a preliminary report on the allegations against Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathi, her brother Mallikarjuna Swamy and Devaraju, who allegedly sold a plot that was later gifted to Parvathi. The FIR was filed by the Mysuru Lokayukta police on September 27, naming these four people. While permitting the investigation, the court stressed that it should not be limited to just these four individuals.
The special court has instructed the police to broaden their investigation and look into all individuals who may be involved in the land allotment irregularities. The aim of the probe is to determine if Siddaramaiah and others used their political influence to obtain residential sites against the established rules. In another development, the special court for people's representatives postponed its decision on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED had challenged the ‘B Report’ submitted by the Lokayukta police, which had cleared Siddaramaiah of any wrongdoing in the case.
The ‘B Report’ concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Siddaramaiah. However, both the ED and the complainant, activist Snehamaayi Krishna, raised objections and asked for a more thorough investigation into the matter. The case involves allegations that CM Siddaramaiah used his official position to help secure residential plots from MUDA, potentially benefiting his family. It is claimed that these allotments went against the established rules and procedures.
