Security forces seize a large cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur

Security forces in Manipur carried out a series of coordinated operations from March 26 to 29, recovering a substantial cache of weapons, explosives, and ammunition across multiple districts. The joint efforts, involving the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP, were part of an intensified campaign to maintain stability in the region.
Multiple Districts Targeted in Extensive Search Operations
On March 26, acting on intelligence inputs, the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a targeted operation in NP Kholen, Kangpokpi district. The operation resulted in the seizure of two AK-series rifles, a carbine, a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle, and a large quantity of ammunition, along with other military equipment.
Continuing their crackdown on illegal arms, security personnel received reports on March 27 about suspicious activity in Parbung, Tengnoupal district. Using deep search metal detectors, troops discovered and excavated three improvised mortars and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), neutralizing a significant security threat.
The same day, intelligence sources guided a joint operation involving Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police in Chingdong Leikai, Jiribam district. During the search, security forces recovered three INSAS rifles, two 7.62 mm self-loading rifles, ammunition and additional supplies intended for unlawful use.
Large-Scale Recovery of Weapons and Explosives
On March 28, an intelligence-driven operation was carried out in Naranseina, Bishnupur district by the Indian Army. The search led to the recovery of multiple firearms, including one rifle, one carbine, two sniper rifles and two pistols. Security forces also seized grenades, IEDs, and a substantial cache of ammunition, further bolstering efforts to curb illegal arms distribution in the region.
The following day, March 29, security forces intensified their crackdown with two separate operations. The first, conducted by the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army in Molnom, Chandel district, resulted in the recovery of three improvised mortars and two pistols. The second operation took place in Changobung, Senapati district, where troops seized four single-barrel bolt-action rifles, a 9 mm pistol, and another improvised mortar.
Authorities Reinforce Commitment to Regional Security
All recovered weapons, explosives, and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Security forces remain committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region by actively conducting intelligence-based operations and preventing the circulation of illegal arms. These successful seizures highlight the unwavering efforts of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and other security agencies in safeguarding Manipur from armed threats.
