Hyprix, a startup from Bangalore founded in June 2024, has made a major breakthrough in India's private defence and aerospace industry. The company has successfully tested "Tezz," the first ramjet engine developed privately in the country.
The remarkable achievement was reached just five months after the design phase, with the support of the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) at IIT Madras. Tezz is a next-generation liquid-fueled ramjet engine, built to work at speeds between Mach 2 and Mach 4. This marks a significant advancement in high-speed aviation and defence technology in India. Hyprix was founded in June 2024 with a goal to transform India's defence and aerospace sectors using innovative, homegrown solutions.
Established by a group of forward-thinking entrepreneurs, the startup has quickly gained attention by focusing on advanced propulsion technologies, which are vital for the future of high-speed aviation and defence systems. With the backing of the government through the Startup India initiative and grants, Hyprix has made impressive progress, leading to the successful development and testing of Tezz.
The startup's partnership with NCCRD, a leading research centre at IIT Madras renowned for its work in combustion and propulsion technologies, has played a key role in this success. This collaboration underscores the increasing cooperation between India's academic institutions and private companies, driving innovation and promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
