The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has intercepted a fishing boat in the Andaman waters and seized approximately five tons of drugs. This is thought to be the largest drug haul ever confiscated by the Coast Guard.

Defence officials have confirmed that this drug seizure is likely the largest in the history of the Indian Coast Guard. More details about the operation are expected soon. Anti-narcotics organisations have successfully intercepted a number of drugs, including this one. A significant operation was carried out earlier this month in Indian territorial seas off the Gujarat coast by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Indian Navy, and the Gujarat Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). 

Authorities apprehended eight Iranian nationals and confiscated 700 kilos of methamphetamine during this operation. The operation was predicated on precise intelligence inputs and was code-named "Sagar Manthan-4." The Navy located and intercepted the trafficking vessel using its maritime patrol assets. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the operation, calling it a "stellar example" of the government's commitment to combating drug smuggling and good agency coordination. This recent drug seizure is part of India's ongoing efforts to fight the growing drug trade through sea routes. So far this year, authorities have seized around 3,500 kilograms of drugs. 

The operations have also resulted in the arrest of 11 Iranian and 14 Pakistani nationals who were involved in drug trafficking. These individuals are currently in custody and waiting for their trial. The Indian government remains committed to stopping drug trafficking, and law enforcement organisations are working to break up cartels and make sure anybody engaged in such illegal activity suffers harsh punishment.
