QS World University Rankings: Delhi University secures top position among central universities in India

Delhi University (DU) has achieved the top position among central universities in India in the QS World University Rankings 2025. This prestigious ranking highlights DU's academic excellence and research contributions.
In the overall list of institutions across the country, Delhi University climbed to 7th place, improving from its 9th position last year. This significant rise in the rankings reflects the university's continuous efforts towards enhancing its educational standards and global reputation.
Professor Yogesh Singh, the Vice Chancellor of DU, announced that DU has achieved the highest progress among the top 10 institutions from India, moving up by 79 ranks. He credited this success to the collective efforts of the entire DU family.
Singh congratulated the faculty members and students of the University for their Significant Contributions to the academic environment and nation-building. He emphasised that DU is continually advancing due to its dedication and commitment.
In the QS World University Rankings 2025, the University of Delhi secured the 328th position, marking a substantial improvement from its previous ranking of 407th. This remarkable progress underscores DU's commitment to academic excellence and global recognition.
In the QS World University Rankings, the University of Delhi performed admirably, placing among the top 22 percent of institutions globally. Among the nine indicators, Delhi University secured rankings among 270 institutions worldwide in four key areas.
Delhi University excelled in various categories, ranking 44th in Employment Outcomes, 220th in Sustainability, 225th in Academic Reputation, and 269th in Employer Reputation. These achievements reflect the university's commitment to excellence across different domains.
Notably, among the top 10 institutions from India, the University of Delhi demonstrated significant progress, advancing by 79 ranks. This remarkable improvement underscores the university's dedication to continuous enhancement and academic excellence.
In terms of specific indicators, the University of Delhi secured the top spot in Employment Outcomes and Sustainability among institutions from India. Additionally, it ranked 3rd in International Research Network, 5th in Academic Reputation, and 8th in Employer Reputation, further highlighting its strong performance across various metrics.
The university has shown improvement in five out of nine performance indicators. Notably, there has been an enhancement in sustainability, which evaluates the social and environmental impact of universities as hubs of education and research.
Additionally, strides have been made in academic reputation, reflecting the perceptions of global academics regarding institutions demonstrating academic excellence. Employer reputation has also seen enhancement, gauging the perceptions of global employers regarding institutions producing job-ready graduates.
Moreover, there has been progress in the international research network, assessing the richness and diversity of an institution's international research partnerships. Furthermore, citations per faculty have increased, measuring the average number of citations obtained per faculty member, thus estimating the impact and quality of scientific work produced by universities.
